butterscotch sauce made from scratch

Let’s make butterscotch sauce, shall we? I have one kid that is currently obsessed with all thing Harry Potter, so tonight we are making homemade butter beer. It all starts with this sauce. While you can definitely buy your sauce from the market, there is really no comparison to the magic in this little glass bottle.

And the best part is, you probably have most of these ingredients on hand!

You will need:
1/4 cup salted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Melt your butter in a small saucepan. Add in brown sugar and whisk until completely dissolved. Pour in heavy cream, and stir until it comes to a simmer. Allow it to simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes, until it’s thick enough to coat a spoon. Add in vanilla. Set aside to cool to room temp.

Grab a glass bottle or jar and pour in your sauce. Keep it in the fridge until you need it. You can use it for coffee, ice cream, butter beer… so many sweet options!
